Featuring a range of recent upgrades
This Moody 54 DS has been very well maintained by her meticulous owner.
The Moody DS range was the last of the Moody range of yachts designed and built in England prior to the sale in 2006 to Hanse. Moody commissioned Bill Dixon to design these craft, and he produced a safe but fast design, with good interior volume. She is very well built, made with hand laid up GRP and Kevlar in Britain to offshore survey standards. She also boasts Doyle Stratis sails and a cutter rig, excellent for heavy weather and is self-tacking.
After the original purchase, Tomodachi sailed from England to the Med and back with her new owners. Her second owner then took part in the ARC world rally and sailed her from England to Fiji to NZ where she found her current owner, who has implemented major upgrades to better suit the NZ way of cruising.
Since then she has sailed extensively around the northeast coast of NZ, and also to Fiji and back for a three-month trip. She performs well in all conditions and is safe and easy to use. For example, all her sail handling systems run back to the cockpit and most controls can be reached from steering position, including the bow thruster. The current owner and the Orakei Marine staff have maintained her to an excellent standard.
She is a fast passagemaker and performs well due to her efficient hull design, moderate draft, large rig and advanced sails.
She was awarded line honours in the 2006 Auckland to Fiji race (cruising division) and was the winner of the overall Royal Akarana Yacht Club Cruising series 2012-13.
Due to the deck saloon structure, the interiors are light and spacious. She is also very self-sufficient, making her the ideal cruiser for longer passages. She offers good tankage with 690l diesel and 955l water, an inverter, watermaker, air conditioning, sat TV, washer/dryer, insect screens and a good house battery bank (620AH @ 24 volts).
Late 2017 a number of significant upgrades were implemented:
* Full replacement of standing rigging and most running rigging (mast out)
* New Doyle Stratis mainsail
* New Victron 3000 VA inverter
* New GJD 65 litre/hour DC watermaker
* New Galleymate 1100 BBQ
Please call Christian in Sydney on 0450545246 for further information.
So many unique and functional features, many of which need to be seen to be appreciated.
